SAILING ON THE JML ROTARY SCOUT

On the weekend of the 10-11 of August this year, myself and a few friends and Rovers had the joy of staying over on the JML Rotary Scout. For those of you that don't know what this is, the Rotary Scout is a Tosca 39 cruising yacht, moored at the False Bay Yacht Club in Simons Town. You can check out their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/JMLRotaryScout?fref=ts

We arrived just before sunset where we were greeted by our skipper for the Sunday, Peter Bosch, who signed us all in and showed us around the yacht. He then left only to see us the next morning.

We all had separate dinners that evening. I myself, trying to fit the theme, had some of the local fish and chips bought from one of the takeaways next to the yacht club, which was absolutely delicious!

We conversed and joked late into the night until our eyes drew heavy and went to bed. Sleeping on a yacht is incredibly different to that of dry land and so with all the moving and bobbing about it took a lot of effort, but did manage to get some sleep!

The next Morning those of us that could get up early enough wondered back to the yacht clubs canteen, where we were treated to an amazing English breakfast, something I am sure to suggest if anyone visit here!

Shortly after Peter came by with an extra deckhand to help out for the day. There where strong Northerly winds of about 25 knots

, making for some great sailing conditions with a relatively low swell. It was decided that we sail around Seal Island to later return to False Bay Yacht Club by mid to late afternoon. We rigged the boat and set sail at around 10:00 if I'm not mistaken.

The cruise was thoroughly enjoyed by all members on the yacht even though most of us (including myself!!) ended up feeding quite a few fish that day.

A big thanks goes out to Peter for taking us out, and I'm sure we'll be making this trip again next year!
